Oversubscription rates

The graphs below are automatically created by the CAT application tool. The oversubscription factors are computed as the ratio between the total requested time and the total time allocated by the CAT on each semester. The latter include the time allocated to Target of Opportunity Programmes (ToOs). Figures are given in nights, where one night correspond to 9 hours (for programmes defined in hours, such as the GTC programmes or the ToOs).

Note that the above definition does not provide a fair estimate of the real oversubscription factor for the GTC, as CAT allocates a significantly larger number of hours than can be effectively executed (by a factor larger than two including ToOs and Filler programmes) in order to populate the GTC observing queue with a sufficient number of programmes to cover different visibility and weather conditions.  A more realistic measure of the GTC oversubscription factor, calculated as the ratio between the  total requested time and the total executed time is provided in this graph. For semesters 15A and 15B, the executed time is temporarily set to 500 hours, and will be adjusted as soon as the real number is provided. The executed time includes the overheads for each science programme, and the time lost for bad weather in both service and visitor mode is not included.
